The 5 km Individual Time Trial is a fast paced race where aerodynamics and the sheer power of the legs work together to get you ahead of the rest. Riders don their one piece aerodynamic suits and helmet, grap their special purpose built TT bike equipped with all the gear which lowers drag and head out one after each other with a minute a part, chasing the rider in front of them, their target time and the elusive track record of 6 min 31 sec.
A total of 39 competitors set out on a Sunday morning made for a time trial, with not much wind and slightly overcast. After an exciting show of power and aerodynamics by the riders, not only did Jerome Ameline get only 2 sec from the track record but Steve Abbott managed to beat it by 6 seconds with a time of 6 mon 25 sec which converts to an average of 29.05 miles/hour (46.75 km/h). Well done Steve !
