Cayman Classics Race 3, 13 May 2012

Sunday 13 May 2012 a brand new course will be tried and tested for the circuit race, as road construction makes it difficult to use the regular route.

Everything points towards a fast paced race full of action when the usual 2 mile route is shortened for this year’s 1.16 mile long route between the Governor Square/Lime Tree Bay roundabout and the Island Heritage roundabout, where riders will have to be on their marks not to be lapped by other riders.

Cayman Classics 2012 Circuit Race Route

Start and finish line will be south of the Governor Square roundabout by the entrance/exit to Sunshine Suites and the race will have the usual setup with 45 min + 3 laps, as well as 2 intermediate sprints which will be announced by the ringing of a bell at the beginning of the sprint lap.

See you out there on Sunday for a race which will be as fun for the riders as the spectators.

As expected the race quickly turned to a fast paced chase them down race and before the first lap had ended the pack of riders had broken up into several smaller groups lead by a group of four riders. As it turned out it was also between this group that the winner of the circuit race was to be found when Mitchell Smith out sprinted Jerome Ameline, Marius Deysel and Steve Abbott.
Closely following but a lap down followed a group including the first from the ladies division, Risa Goldberg, as well as the first and second from the masters division, Gabe Rabess and Jacob Luttermann.
Behind this group the rest came in smaller and bigger groups, completing a well done race

During the race 2 intermediate sprints were held with Jerome Ameline and Marius Deysel finishing 1st and 2nd in both, with Steve Abbott and Michele Smith each taking a third. This gives the following top 3 before race 5, as there are no sprints in race 4 which is a 10 mile time trial:

Race Number Name Total Points
58 Jerome Ameline 20
50 Marius Deysel 6
60 Gary Clarke 6

It is very unfortunate but after reviewing the finish line video it has been found that some errors had made their way in the results. Please find below the amended and correct results as well as general standings after race 3.
